PDO Thread Lift

PDO Thread lifts have become a very popular procedure for lifting up sagging jowls and creating “Natural” volume from collagen production.  We have been performing for over 4 years and were the first in Arizona to perform this procedure.  Over the years our technique has changed and evolved to what we consider to be the best in all or Arizona.  PDO threads can be very difficult to place unless you have performed many of them.  Threads (sutures) are placed under the skin and anchor into the soft tissue to help lift the face and jowls.  The threads slowly dissolve over the period of a year.  The thread is placed in the hairline so that it is not visible and the end is cut off and slips under the skin.  Lidocaine in injected under the skin where the insertion point will be as well as under the skin.  The procedure takes about 45 minutes, and some times we like to also add a little filler to replace areas of bone and fat loss.  This is a great procedure to help lift and tighten and still maintain a natural appearance.

Med Spas To AVOID

I have spoken to a lot of people about miserable experiences they have had with other medspas.  Here is what I have learned, and maybe this can help you find the right place. -Does the medspa or office offering services refuse to give out prices over the phone?  This is a red flag.  A reputable office should be transparent with pricing so that you can get an idea of what you will spend before going in. -Do you get stuck in a room with a “Sales Consultant”?  I would say to just walk out at that point, because they are trained to suck as much money out of you as possible.  Sales associates work on commission and don’t care about your financial situation.  They will be more than happy to set you up on Care Credit to get you financed for your services. -Is the office dirty, and the front desk personal rude?  As they always say, first impressions are everything. -Always make sure you know how long the person has been performing the treatments that you are going to get.  Typically a new person will not have the same amount of experience as someone that has been doing that procedure for over a year. -Groupon?  Sometimes Groupon is great, but when it comes to messing with your face spend the extra couple of dollars. -Bait and switch.  I really hate to say it, but there are places that will advertise cheap prices for Botox, then switch another product.  Always offer to come back if they are out of something you really want.  Make sure the product is where you can see it. -Avoid places where people always talk bad about other medical spas.  When people talk bad about other places, it shows they are threatened by competition.  A good medspa will keep their opinions to themselves and focus on you the client.

Voluma – Radiesse

Voluma and Radiesse are two favorites for cheek fillers.  Both produce great results, but each one has it’s own pros and cons.  Voluma is a nice soft filler that comes in a 1ml syringe, whereas Radiesse is a 1.5ml syringe. Radiess has some characteristics that are called “biostimulators”.  A biostimulatory filler will cause the body to produce more collagen over time.  We have seen Radiesse last for over 2 years due to these biostimulatory traits, where Voluma will last about 12 months.  Depending on how Radiesse is placed, it mimics a injectable implant and can be firm.  Radiess can also have a soft feel when slightly hyperdiluted to help fill in large hallow areas.  Voluma is much softer and very natural feeling, which many people like.  Radiesse will tend to cause more swelling after injections than Voluma. Both are great fillers, but we recommend having your provider let you know what would be the best for you.

Botox

When injecting Botox, you can not inject everyone the same way.  Muscles vary in location from one person to the next.  Having a trained injector who has a great deal of knowledge about the facial muscles will make your Botox come out much better.  When doing an assessment of a person’s facial muscles it is best to have them make different facial expressions to evaluate the muscles. When going to a new place, it is important to know what you want and what you don’t want.  Many places work on commission and will try and up sell you on more Botox than you may even need.  The problem is, when you have too much Botox it can cause the forehead to get very heavy and make the eyelids droopy.  If you don’t get enough injected you will still have a lot of movement and the lines will never go away.  The other problem with treating sub-therapeutically, or placing too small of an amount is that it will not last very long. Typically for the forehead I find the sweet spot to be 30 units of Botox or 60 units of Dysport.  Around the eyes can be a tricky place to inject because it is the highest rate of bruising associated with this area.  Blood vessels are very difficult to see around the eyes and it is a very tender area.  If you place too much Botox around the eyes it will effect the way you smile.

Botox

Botox is a great way to help reduce and eliminate wrinkles and fine lines.  I typically recommend starting Botox when you start to see fine lines in the forehead or around the eyes.  When adding Botox into your routine of anti-aging the benefits will pay off greatly down the road.  Many people ask what a good age to begin Botox?  Unfortunately there is no right answer since everyone has different types of muscle strengths.  I have had clients as young as 20 begin Botox, and other women starting at the age of 45.  When getting Botox for “preventative” measures, I generally let people know they need a smaller amount and not as frequent.  The best idea is to have a consult to determine whether Botox is right for you. Dangers of Botox… When injected incorrectly, Botox can cause a “Droopy eye” or when injected inside the orbital rim it can migrate into the muscles that move the eye causing a lazy eye.  I have personally injected hundreds of thousands of Botox units and have never had any serious problems.  The good thing is that Botox is not permanent and will wear off in 3-6 months.  I always encourage people to do their research before undergoing any type of cosmetic procedure.  There are plenty of good injectors, but finding the one you like can take time, so be patient and do your homework.

Lip Injections

Lip injections are defiantly an art.  Before getting your lips done, always look for pictures of what you like.  By showing photos to the injector, this will help them get a better idea of what they need to do.  Before lip injections, it is good to know if you have a tendency to get cold sores.  If you are prone to getting cold sores, I would highly recommend starting on an antiviral such as Valtrex the day before and day of the procedure. Do you research as far as what type of product they like to use for lip injections.  I prefer to use Juvederm Ultra XC, because of its longevity.  Other fillers such as Restylane, Volbella, Vallure, Bellotero are a total waste of time and money.  The reason I say this is due to the fact that the molecules in these fillers are very small and break down quickly.  Many inexperienced injectors like these fillers because they are easily correctable when they make a mistake. Always research and look at their before & after photos of lip injections that they have done.  Believe it or not, some places do a very poor quality of lip injections and actually steal pictures from other medspas and take credit for the work.  I hope this blog helped inform you about the decision to get your lips filled.  We perform thousands of lip injections and create some of the best lips.

PDO Threadlift

Glo Medspa has been performing the PDO facial threadlift for over 2 years, and was the first in Arizona to offer this service.  We have seen many other medical facilities that have attempted to perform this procedure, but the results were very poor.  A few things I highly recommend before having this procedure performed.  First I highly recommend that you ask the person performing injections for “Before & After” photos.  Many medical professionals try and use 3 or maybe 4 threads to lift the face. Complications – Unfortunately when you only use 3-4 threads, the results are not the best.  The reason clinicians will use only 3-4 threads is to save money.  A few complications I have seen from other facilities are threads that are poking out, or threads coming out of the mouth.  When a thread is poking out against the skin, it means the thread was placed too shallow.  When a thread protrudes into the mouth, that means it was placed too deep.  There are other complications such as puckering or buckling that may resolve on it’s own.  Threads can also slip out of place or even break. Facial threading is a great alternative to a face lift if you are a candidate.  PDO threads will last up to 18 months and then slowly breakdown and are absorbed by the body.  The best thing about threads are that they appear very natural and reduce the amount of dermal fillers by over 50%.  There is generally no downtime with this procedure, but swelling can be expected for 4-5 days and tenderness for 2 weeks.

nonsurgical “mini face lift” with PDO facial threading

There has been going popularity for nonsurgical procedures to help people look their best.  Noninvasive procedures offer little to no downtime, less complications and little risk of complications or infections. PDO facial threading uses small surgical sutures to help lift sagging jowls and give you a younger more youthful appearance.   The threads I typically like to use are a large barbed suture, that will give maximum results and last the longest.  Threads will generally last about 1 1/2 years to 2 years when the large threads are used. The PDO thread is placed under the skin through a small hole.  The entry point in numbed with a local anesthetic as well as under the skin.  Pain during the procedure is mostly felt while the numbing agent is being injected. Areas that PDO threads can be used on are the knees, elbows, face, breast lift, butt lift and more.  As like any other procedure, the results are only as good as the person performing the procedure.  I believe our results are some of the best possible results out there.

Botched?

So we all read articles and see things on TV about botched procedure in surgery and the cosmetic world.  In fact we are fascinated by other peoples mistakes that we created a reality show based solely on it.    In the area I deal with, which is all non-invasive injectables I have seen my far share of “botched” jobs.  I hate to say it but dermatologist rank the highest for the botched jobs I have had to correct.  Are they great at other things…sure, so lets let them practice what they are great at and keep them away from the face.  In the time I have been doing injections, I have seen everyone getting in on the game of fillers and botox.  In Scottsdale there is such a high demand to look and feel great, so everyone is trying to get in on the game. What you need to know is that if you can easily get in for a “same day appointment” they are most likely not who you should go to for advanced procedures.  I am typically booked out 2 weeks for fillers and all advanced injections, unless I get a last minute cancellation.  Remember that your face is hard to hide, and you get what you pay for.  I find it difficult to treat people who hop from one Groupon to the next, because I can never get an accurate sense of what injections have been done.  Establish yourself with someone you trust so that you can make changes to your treatment to achieve the best possible outcomes. Fillers like Juvederm and Restylane can easily be dissolved.  Radiesse can also be dissolved.  Botox…sorry, but it will have to wear off in 3-4 months.

PDO Facial Threading

PDO (Polydioxanone) threads have been around for about 10 years.  Many people refer to the use of PDO facial threading as “mini face lift”.  The PDO threads are made of the same material that is used for surgical procedures such as open heart surgery.  These are specially made sutures that have small fine barbs on them to anchor them into place.  There are several different types of threads for different types of applications.  Some are smooth, barbed or twist depending on the results you are trying to achieve. In my practice I use a majority of barbed threads for lifting the facial tissue and giving people a more youthful appearance.  Results can vary widely depending on the skill level of the person performing the procedure and the amount of threads being placed.  I have found that the more threads that are used, the better the results will be. The procedure itself is not painful.  I typically like to inject the area with a small local anesthetic at the place of insertion.  under the skin is numbed to help with patient comfort.  The cannula are placed under the skin to place the thread.  The thread is placed in the proper position and the cannula is removed.  The thread then trimmed and slips under the skin and not visible.   The procedure takes about 45 – 60 minutes.
