Forma- Neck & Face Tightening

Have you ever wondered if you can tighten your neck and face with no downtime?  There is a new machine on the market called “Forma” which uses radio frequency and heat to help tighten the skin on the face and neck.  How it works is by passing a specific frequency down through the skin to help tighten up the elastin fibers and collagen to produce a tightening effect.  Over time as we age, the elastin fibers relax which lead to loose skin.  By passing a frequency down through the fibers, it helps to tighten these specific fibers and produce tighter skin.  This machine will not produce collagen, so I recommend a good dermal filler to add volume to areas deficient in volume. The Forma is completely painless, and you may actually fall asleep during the procedure.  Results can typically be seen after 3 treatments, and 6 treatments is what I generally recommend.  I recommend this for the mid-face to jaw line area, and the neck.  Other places people use the Forma are for above the knees and arm areas.

Juvederm and Fillers

With so many different dermal fillers to help plump up the face, which one is right for you?  Understanding what each “filler” is intended for helps you create a better idea of what to ask for and how much to budget.  Each company makes a slightly different filler, but is still similar to others. A filler with a smaller molecule will typically be used in fine lines and wrinkles.  Larger fillers, such as Voluma or Radiesse are used a lot in the mid-face area to help build up large areas.  The mid-face can hold a large volume of filler, so don’t be shocked if you may need 3-4 syringes.  I will typically use 1 syringe for a very soft and subtle look and 2-3 syringes for a more noticeable and drastic appearance.   The most syringes I have used about 18 syringes for a full liquid facelift. In the lips a great filler is Juvederm Ultra or Ultra plus.   Restylane is typically my last choice for injecting the lips due to it’s small molecular size.  Generally people who are not proficient in lip augmentation like Restylane because it allows you more room for error.  I have tried Voluma in the lips and not overly impressed. If you are ever in doubt…just have a few consultations with different people and go with the best.

Affordable Mini Face Lift

There are so many new options out there, that getting a face-lift is no longer the only solution to look younger.  Many people are using dermal fillers such as Juvederm, Voluma, Volbella, Restylane, Radiesse to achieve a youthful appearance.   Dermal fillers a great and I love them, but many times over use of fillers in the face can lead to a “moon face” that is big and round with no defined shape. The PDO thread lift is also known as the “Mini Face-Lift”.  This procedure takes about 1 hour and will rid your face of those jowls and tighten you up.  A cannula with a suture is placed under the skin into the soft tissue.  The suture has fine barbs on it that anchor it into the tissue.  The cannula is removed and the suture stays in place.  The suture will very slowly dissolve over a period of 1-2 years depending on the size of the “thread” suture.   There is no “bunched up” skin by the ear and it is very soft and natural looking.  This is a very highly skilled procedure and should only be performed by trained and certified professionals.  We perform the most PDO thread lifts in all of Arizona and are highest rated!

Vaginal Rejuvination

After having children, you may experience some vaginal laxity.  Other women suffer from stress urinary incontinence.  The good news is that there is a fix for that!  The Femilift helps increase sexual stimulation of the vagina, as well as increase the moisture of the vagina while having intercourse.  Many post menopausal women suffer from dryness in the vagina resulting in painful intercourse.  Many other women, as much as 50%, suffer from stress urinary incontinence.  Urinary incontinence is when you may sneeze or cough and a little bit of urine escapes and come out of the bladder.  The Femilift helps tighten and support the bladder leakage from happening.  The Femilift will also tighten the vagina after having children.  The Femilift is also great for labia reduction. The Femilift consists of 3 treatments that are spaced 1 month apart.  After the treatment you may have some spotting, so we recommend wearing a maxi pad for a few days after.  After the treatment we recommend no sexual intercourse for 3 days as well as no tampons.

What age to start Botox?

What is a good age to start doing botox?  This is a common question I get, but unfortunately there is no right answer.  I have clients as young as 19-20 incorporating botox into their skin care regimen.  At this age I typically evaluate muscle strength and fine lines that are visible at rest.  I have seen some very strong muscles, typically between the brows, that contribute to the deep “11’s”.  Many people may think that 20 is too young, but we must remember that Botox was not around and available for most of us growing up. So what is my answer to “What is the best age”?  I typically say 30 years of age is a good time to begin a good skin care routine.  I like to encourage simple routines at this age such as a good cleanser for washing your face, a weekly facial scrub, and a good moisturizer.  I have had great results with the IS Clinical line of skin care products.  When I choose a skin care line, I look at what produces good results, not what the hip cool trends are.  IS Clinical is a great medical grade line that has a good price point for everyone.  Many of the brands like Jan Marini are good, but over priced in my own opinion and don’t deliver the results I like to see with my clients. Juvederm and fillers I usually see women closer to 35 starting to use these to turn back time.  Fillers are a great way to soften up laugh lines, marionette lines and fill the line between the brows.  Voluma and Radiesse are great for restoring volume back into the cheek areas.  Juvederm fillers can usually help you look 5 years younger or more. Lip filler…I have had as young as 17 years old getting their lips filled.  Lips are a whole other area where age does not really apply.  Kylie Jenner is one of the youngest and most influential personalities to create the sexy lips craze.  Big sexy lips are defiantly the most popular right now, and are by far my favorite to do.

eMatrix – Sublative fractional skin resurfacing

There are a few things to help you looking young, and the eMatrix is one of my top picks.  I always like to try new things each month to maintain great looking skin.  Botox of course is the fountain of youth , but recently I tried our new eMatrix machine around the eyes and I was blown away. The eMatrix is a sublative radiofrequency machine that delivers a fractional energy into a small grid pattern.  The eMatrix delivers an area of microscopic zones that penetrate into the epidermis and dermis and are  thermally ablative.  What does this mean in simple terms??  The ablative frequency goes down into the skin and causes a healing phase to begin after the sublative fractionated  frequency disturbs the tissue.  This in turn causes the body to repair itself and create more collagen, giving you wrinkle free skin! Who can benefit from this treatment?  Anyone with moderate to severe acne scars, stretch marks, wrinkles and fine lines.  There is 4-6 weeks between treatments to allow your skin to recover.  Each treatment takes only 20-30 minutes and is great for ALL skin types.  I  recommend 3-5 treatments for best results.  Trust me… You will LOVE the eMatrix!!

Skin Care Tips by Randi

It happens too often, people come into the office and want to get treatments done to improve their skin, but then go home and use Neutrogena on their face.  Your daily skin care routine at home is crucial. Using professional products and following the correct steps in your regimen can make the biggest difference in your skin.  Yes, it is important to get treatments done from your esthetician, but we always say, “you can pull the bed sheets tighter, but if the sheets are wrinkled, it still won’t look good.” We stress the importance in investing in quality products because many people don’t realize the harm in putting cheap, drug store products on their skin. The problem occurs when  they strip the natural lipid barrier from your skin, leaving it dry and irritated. The pH levels of cleansers like Neutrogena, L’Oreal, etc., are usually around 10, when a preferable PH for your skin should be 5.5. Most  products also contain harmful alcohol as an ingredient.  Many people with oily skin gravitate to alcohol based products because of the matte finish it leaves them with.  The use of alcohol based products actually makes oily-skin worse, and depletes vital substances needed for healthy skin.  Glo Medspa carries IS Clinical, which are results based and great products. The steps you should follow for healthy skin are: Cleanse- find professional cleanser to compliment your skin type (Normal, Dry, Oily, Combination, Sensitive, Aging) Exfoliate- depending on the product, exfoliate 1-2 times a week to remove dead skin and allow products to penetrate deeper Moisturize-collegian thrives in moist environments! Protect- one of the most important steps for anti-aging. SPF 30 is recommended, and make sure it says broad spectrum!

A New Body…A New You!

In the market for a new body?  Many times going to the gym is not enough to get rid of problem areas.  You eat everything you should, exercise 3 to 4 times a week and still have areas that drive you crazy.  There is exercise resistant fat that will never go away unless you get liposuction or use a non-invasive body contouring system.  Having surgery to remove fat often times leaves lumpy and uneven areas, not to mention complications. Ultrashape is the NEWEST technology in noninvasive body contouring.   Coolsculpting has been around and does work to destroy fat, but there are many things they do not tell you.  Coolsculpting can be very painful and will take months to see results.  There are also many problems with late onset of pain that Coolsculpting even admits to that can last several weeks after the treatment.  Wearing clothing can rub and irritate areas that were treated.  There is numbness, bruising, damage to connective tissue, possible nerve damage.  People with Reynaud’s syndrome are not candidates.  Coolsculpting can leave uneven areas and “Divots”. Ultrashape can be used on anyone, and on any area with NO PAIN.  There is zero downtime and many people see results faster than with Coolsculpting.  Even the consent for Ultrashape is a single line stating “There are no adverse effects from the treatment”  Ultrashape treats many people who are not candidates or do not see results with Coolsculpting.  On www.realself.com Ultrashape has received higher ratings since being released.  Ultrashape receives 94% while Coolsculpting only gets 71%.  The numbers speak for themselves.

Skin Success

Skin care keys to success!! So many times my clients ask “how do I get great looking skin?”  The answer to that is simple, but sometimes hard to do…make a routine and live by it.  I think of skin care like going to the gym… you will not get that beach body from going once a month or just when you feel like it to the gym.  It takes work and dedication to maintain a nice figure, just as it does to maintain your skin.  The skin is the most neglected organ of the body.  Exposure to chemical and environmental toxins every single day breaks down our body and skin.  You are dealing with Sun, heat, Pollution, and dirty air on a daily basis. Routines with chemical peels – I generally say that the Fall and Spring are the best time for chemical peels.  In the spring and fall the weather is cooling down and it makes it much more bearable to be outside.  I recommend a Vi Peel twice a year to really get a nice deep medical grade peel.   PCA peels tend to burn a bit and not give you the best results, but are much cheaper. Routine with Botox – I always recommend getting Botox every 3 to 4 months.  If you have strong facial muscles I recommend treating them with Botox before it wears off.  Another routine is an annual round of Botox and fillers before the holidays.  I typically recommend Botox and Juvederm or Voluma  in October or beginning of November to last you through the holiday season.  There are many holiday parties and events between November and January and you want to look your absolute best for! Routines with Fillers (Juvederm/ Restylane) – I always recommend at least every 6-12 months an evaluation of how your fillers are holding up.  I recommend lip injections in the beginning every 6 months for 1-2 years then once a year to maintain fullness.   For all other fillers I recommend at least once a year to be evaluated for fillers. Micro needling – I typically say 3 treatments is what it takes to decrease and get rid of fine lines and wrinkles.  Micro needling should be performed every 4-6 weeks.  This allows the skin time to recover and remodel of the dermis of the skin.  Micro needling by far I see the best results with, and very little down time is involved. Facials and Microdermabrasion – I recommend these treatments at least every month.  I good microdermabrasion will clear out your clogged pores while a facial will hydrate your skin.  Hydration in a dry warm climate is key to looking good.  I always suggest a great copper firming mist you can carry with you that can be applied over your makeup to help provide moister to the skin. Remember – 1 chemical peel will not make you look 1o years younger.  Many times it take 3 treatments to get you to where you want to be.  From there it is a matter of maintaining your routine. And finally…wear your sunscreen! Prevention is the key to having beautiful skin for the rest of your life.
